Overview

Arts Marathon is a pioneering programme that provides accessibility to and training of arts to people with disabilities (PWDs) living in rehabilitative residential homes/ Sheltered Workshop/ Adult Training Centre, who have not experienced or experimented with the arts in this carefully-designed and expertly curated way before. This project is sponsored by the Soical Welfare Department and sustain as a 1.5 years project.

Due to COVID-19, while many activities have been suspended, especially in rehabilitative residential homes/ Sheltered Workshop/ Adult Training Centre, PWDs had limited exposure to the outside world. In times like this, the arts are an essential tool and medium to connect among people with different abilities, encourage them to stay active, and improve their life skills for independent learning and problem-solving. This project aims at providing a platform for PWDs in residential homes/ Sheltered Workshop/ Adult Training Centre, to develop their artistic talents through a series of tailor-made training workshops of a chosen art form, upon consultation with the participating residential homes/ Sheltered Workshop/ Adult Training Centre. These workshops will not only unleash PWDs' various talents, impart knowledge and skills upon them, but they will also help foster greater communication, collaboration and cooperation among themselves and with their carers and trainers, thus to create stronger bonding and social inclusion.

Upon completion of the workshops, a showcase organised by ADA across the participating residential homes/ centres for the participants will be the highlight of the project. While we believe the process in which PWDs learn and grow with the arts is important, the culmination of their learning outcomes taking the form of a final showcase also means a great deal to them and their families and friends.
