Meet the Artists - Community Engagement Activity

Introduction

Artists with disabilities will visit local schools and community youth centres from September 2013 to July 2014 to share their experience and artistic achievement with the students and teenagers. Participants can understand more about arts with people with disabilities and at the same time, learn to respect diversity and differences. It also triggers artistic creation between artists and participants through expression and admiration of arts.

The Scheme involves 3 phases:

  • Artists Sharing – Suitable for joining of the whole school / centre. Artists will showcase their talent and share their experience in arts. Participants can learn from the artists a positive attitude when facing challenges in life.
  • Art Jamming – suitable for arts-related society to join. With more in-depth communication and sharing of a specific arts form, both artists and participants can benefit mutually.
  • Artists Showcase – Each year, the project will hold 2 community inclusion events to showcase the talent of artists. Visiting artists will invite individual or arts related groups whom they consider suitable to join the performance as “Cultural Ambassadors” of the event 2014. Participants have the opportunity to work with other artists in production of a public event which promotes community inclusion through the arts.

The artists with disabilities have started the sharing sessions with students since October 2013.
