VSA arts Institute 2009

Successful Completion of VSA arts Institute 2009

VSA arts Institute 2009, the 3-day conference with workshops, was successully held from 17 July to 19 July, 2009 (Fri - Sun).

We were honoured to have invited Ms. Hui Hiu Fai, Florence, JP, Under Secretary for the Home Affairs, Home Affairs Bureau, Ms. Soula Antoniou, President of VSA arts and Ms. Ida Lam, Chairperson of the Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong as the officiating guests of the opening ceremony. The theme of the event was "The Arts as a Tool to Unlock Student Success and Create Inclusive Communities". Throughout the discussions and arts activities of the Institute conducted by presenters from the VSA arts and other Asia Pacific affiliates, the participants learnt the foundation of arts learning and inclusive education, skills on facilitating diversified arts activities for students with disabilities, and the ways of evaluation and assessment of the programs in their work.

We are very grateful to have almost 70 participants and VIPs from the arts, education and rehab fields joining the conference. Although the 3rd day of the Institute was shortened into a half-day session due to bad weather, it did not hinder participants' enthusiasm. We would like to express our gratitude to the supporting organisation, SAHK, presenters, affiliates of VSA arts, participants and volunteers, without support from these parties the VSA arts Institute would not be a success.

The Arts as a Tool to Unlock Student Success and Create Inclusive Communities

3-day Conference with Workshops

The VSA arts Institute is a series of professional development workshops that focus on designing and delivering arts learning experiences that reach students with disabilities. Through discussion and hands-on arts activities, participants gain an understanding of the foundation of arts learning and inclusive education, and how to use inclusive practices in their work. Participants will join a community of teachers and artists working to create engaging lessons and environments that meet the diverse learning needs of all students. Co-organized by VSA arts and the Arts with the Disabled Association (ADA) Hong Kong, over the course of the VSA arts Institute, participants will experience four types of activities: core sessions, hands-on workshops, reflective discussions, and networking with peers led by experts from the VSA arts and other Asia Pacific affiliates.
