Introduction

Kwok Wai Yip developed great interest in painting when he attended art classes at school and showed special preference in producing paintings with vivid and lively cartoon characters in early period of his artistic engagement, despite the fact that a cerebral surgery he undertook at a young age has resulted in paralysis of the right side of his body. Wai Yip has been devoted to trying a combined use of sketching and watercolour in his work in recent years with animals, architecture and landscape as the themes, and among his paintings which display delicacy, rich colours and a sense of comfort, a sketch piece “My Dog” and a watercolour painting “Heritage Museum” were shortlisted in “Cross All Borders: Hong Kong Festival Showcasing New Visual Artists with Disabilities 2010”.

Not only has Wai Yip achieved outstanding performance in “Thousands of Youths Picturing China and Welcoming the Olympics” organised by the Committee of Young Pioneers of China where his work was included in “Glorious China”, a painted scroll of 2008 metres long, his talent was also recognized in “Youreable Fashion Design” organised by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Wai Yip hopes to obtain more experience and build greater confidence through more active participation in various competitions in the future, where he will be grateful to receive recognition and acclaim for his art work, as well as to further his techniques in painting and introduce his work to more people for greater recognition.
