Fill the Chinese New Year with love and inclusiveness • Support young artists with disabilities
The Lunar New Year is fast approaching. Let us bid farewell to the Year of the Rat and welcome the New Year with open arms! To celebrate the Year of the Ox, we have prepared an animated greeting card, using artwork created by a young talented artist, Leung Kai Yin. We hope everyone can feel the vigour of the New Year through Leung’s artwork.
In the New Year, we shall continue to provide arts events and art education programmes, through online and other modes, opening the doors to the world of arts for young people with disabilities.
We sincerely invite everyone to support young artists with disabilities. Let their artistic dreams take flight!
Donate and pass on your blessings and support!

Art Generator • Refine your skill and develop your unique voice
Acclaimed British visual and performance artist, Dr Rachel Gadsden, will coach ten selected local artists with disabilities to further refine and enhance their artistic skills as well as practice. Apart from the online masterclass, the programme offers hard-to-come-by individual mentoring, group sharing and critique. Dr Gadsden will guide each participant to explore and seek inspiration, hoping to unearth their unique artistic voice and lead them to create more unique artwork. Upon completing the programme, participants will share their ideas and artwork through interaction and discussion with audiences in an online public sharing session.

Recalling the past, experiencing the new
The ‘Life Enrichment Program for Elderly with Disabilities’ kicked-off the new year by ‘Storytelling’. The workshop facilitator, Indy Lee, used simple narrative methods and his childhood memories as an introduction, to illustrate the relationship between characters, places and events. The elders brought along photos and shared their stories with the group. Each story is unique: one proudly recalled her honoured moment as an Olympic torchbearer, some shared their travelling experiences with close friends, and others shared the touching relationship between a mother and a daughter-in-law. The workshop is full of fond memories.
Another unique feature of the Program is Audio Description training for the elderly. The workshop helps improve elders’ observation and oral presentation skills. Elders who participated are empowered to assist the more vulnerable, visually impaired elders. This unique training garnered the attention of the mass media, and we were invited for a televised interview. |

Exercising elders’ creativity
The ‘Social Inclusive Arts Project for Artists with Disabilities and Elders’ has kick-started last October. Six artists with disabilities have visited different elderly centres and conducted workshops to engage elders in the arts. Due to the pandemic, classes have shifted from face-to-face to online teaching. Delighted to attend online courses, elders from the International Women’s League completed a series of artworks step-by-step at home under our artists’ guidance! The first three participating elderly centres are about to finish their classes. Our artists are looking forward to meeting the elderly in the other three elderly centres in March!
* ‘Social Inclusive Arts Project for Artists with Disabilities and Elders’ is supported by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Community Sustainability Fund. |
