Coming Soon: ‘Arts with the Disabled in Hong Kong’ Online Channel and Archive (THE Platform)
With the support of the Arts Capacity Development Funding Scheme, ADAHK will launch the ‘Arts with the Disabled in Hong Kong’ Online Channel and Archive, aptly named THE Platform, in September 2023. This project marks the first online platform in Hong Kong dedicated to exploring, documenting, and showcasing arts with the disabled in Hong Kong, including its development history, programmes and events, artists, and work. To inherit the past and pave the way for the future, we bring together arts practitioners with or without disability who engage in the arts with the disabled, hoping to create a one-stop service platform for the general public, local and international art scenes.

Recap of ‘Life Enrichment Programme for Elderly with Disabilities’
Our three-year pilot scheme, ‘Life Enrichment Programme for Elderly with Disabilities,' has come to an end in June. Targeting elders with different abilities and Mild Cognitive Impairment, home-alone elders or those who have difficulties leaving home on their own, we collaborated with over seventeen non-profitable elderly centres and eleven elderly homes to organise a series of art activities to bring the dazzling beauty of the arts to delay the cognitive degeneration of them.
Six workshops were organised with art therapeutic elements and Arts Accessibility elements. Workshops with art therapeutic elements included percussion, photography, and storytelling, while those with Arts Accessibility elements were Audio Description, Touch Art workshops, and docent training. ‘Home Delivery Arts Service’ was also organised for elderly singletons and families of elderly doubletons, while ‘Elderly-Home Delivery Arts Service’ targeted residents in elderly homes; both services aimed to help older adults to stay engaged and creative with the arts in a homey environment. Various art appreciation activities were organised to further widen the elders’ horizons, such as watching theatre productions and ballet performances, arranging guided tours of exhibitions and historical sites, etc.
The programme engaged 1,800 participants. The team would like to take this opportunity to express their appreciation to all the participating elderly centres and elderly homes for their cooperation and the active participation of the elderly. ADAHK collected opinions from various parties. Older adults and the staff of the elderly centre all agreed that the programme enriched their understanding towards the arts. Not only did the elders get to enjoy the therapeutic effects and the joy from the activities, but the staff also got to know their clients better, which will help in planning activities that better suit the needs of the elderly in the future, thus developing their potential.
